PinoyLUG: "Building with Passion and Pride"

The acronym in PinoyLUG stands for "LEGO® User Group" - but perhaps only LEGO® enthusiasts would be aware of that. LUGs are informal hobby groups who share the same interest in LEGO® and meet at certain places to connect with each other and visit LEGO® exhibits and conventions if there are any. Some LUGs formalize their group and establish regular meetings where members can have more interactive activities as LEGO® hobbyists. There are only two RLUGs (Recognized LUGs) in the Philippines and one of them is PinoyLUG. It started with a few core members back in 2014 and its numbers have grown steadily through the years especially after it was recognized by the LEGO® group as part of its global network of RLUGs. It's founding President, Leslie Leshen Araujo remembers the difficulty of holding the group together without a permanent meeting place - "we communicated mainly through FB group chats to plan sporadic meet-ups or visit LEGO® displays and other events."

PinoyLUG's Project AMORsolo

The Order of National Artists (Orden ng mga Pambansang Alagad ng Sining) is the highest national recognition given to Filipino individuals who have made significant contributions to the development of Philippine arts; namely, Music, Dance, Theater, Visual Arts, Literature, Film, Broadcast Arts, and Architecture and Allied Arts. The order is jointly administered by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) and conferred by the President of the Philippines upon recommendation by both institutions.  

The country had its first National Artist in Fernando C. Amorsolo. The official title “Grand Old Man of Philippine Art” was bestowed on Amorsolo when the Manila Hilton inaugurated its art center on January 23, 1969, with an exhibit of a selection of his works.

#PinoyLUG in partnership with the Cultural Center of the Philippines and Fernando C. Amorsolo Art Foundation, Inc. proudly present Project AMORsolo; a unique and original concept of PinoyLUG transposing three great works of Fernando Amorsolo into remarkable masterpieces in LEGO® bricks mosaic art. The exhibit is part of the CCP’s commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of Amorsolo’s proclamation as the first National Artist of the Philippines in Visual Arts.

Pinoy LUG | TEQ63: Manila Killa

Pinoy LUG is not just a community about LEGO it is about supporting those who helped the group over the years with the past collaboration. This past weekend some of the members of Pinoy LUG showed support and did a special coverage on QUICCS’ first ever Solo Art Show titled “Manila Killa” which launches a special metallic edition of the TEQ63 Art Toy dubbed the “Manila Killa” Encore Edition.

Batman is 80 Years Old and 2019 kicked off with DC publishing Detective Comics #1000 that went sold out globally. Around the world the Dark Knight Detective is one of the popular characters from DC Comics.

Road to Bricktober | A Fun Party at BxB!

Earlier this Saturday morning PinoyLUG and BxB held another gathering in the Jollibee store at the Annapolis branch. There’s a certain vibe in this second iteration of BxB after being on hiatus for a couple of months. The tourist slogan of the country is “It’s More Fun in the Philippines” and that is Bxb leads to Bricktober!

PinoyLUG Holds LEGO® Ninjago Movie Screening

Just like that, September is done. And what better way to end it than with a great NINJAGO BANG!! PinoyLUG's screening of The Lego Ninjago Movie this afternoon @ Ayala Malls The 30th was SOLD OUT, thanks to Ninjago and Lego fans of all ages. Also in attendance were representatives from LAJ MKTG., and special guests from World Vision Philippines, the beneficiary of today's event. Yes, every ticket holder donated to a great cause! 

BxBetter 2017 | PinoyLUG's Intergalactic Gathering

Brickstameet 2017 | Adelaide Adventures

“Brickstameet” is a worldwide gathering of LEGO enthusiasts or AFOLS (Adult Fans of LEGO) who are into the art of Toy Photography, where members of a local LUG community organized an outdoor activity that’s usually held every three months. PinoyLUG + LCS: Silent Mary Live Build

“Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” is heading to Philippine cinemas this month and to promote the upcoming film LEGO Certified Store invited PinoyLUG (Pinoy LEGO Users Group) to do a live build on one of the biggest sets based that is now available exclusively to this store. The build event was simulcast and was aired on Facebook LIVE, which can be re-watched again on LCS and PinoyLUG FB pages. The event started past 11 AM where volunteers from the PinoyLUG build team started with opening the ‘Silent Mary’ set.

PinoyLUG Grand Meet-Up 2017

The first quarter of 2017 proved to be very productive for the Pinoy LEGO® Users Group with 2 Brick by Brick (BxB) events in February and March, 4 "The LEGO® Batman Movie" displays all over the metro, alongside a Fan Screening in Megamall attended by almost 600 moviegoers. If the first quarter is an indicator of how successful 2017 will be for PinoyLUG, then everyone needs to buckle up and enjoy the ride. PinoyLUG is raring to go full force this 2017. The community is steamrolling its way for more events and more opportunities to engage with the Filipino AFOL community. Participation in big and small events has become a staple undertaking as exhibit displays at Match Fest in Robinsons Manila was seen over last weekend and this will be followed in the upcoming TAGCOM this late April and COLLECTICON in September. It is but fitting that the theme for this year's Grand Meet-up is "Cars and Racing." A very good momentum has been established and acceleration is key.

PinoyLUG Represent at SBLUG Meet!

PinoyLUG Welcome the Rooster for Chinese New Year with MOC themes representing this celebration at Lancaster Hotel in partnership with the LEGO® Trading Group, while in South Australia there was also a celebration with SBLUG. SBLUG short for Southern Bricks LEGO® Users Group is an RLUG community based in Adelaide, which held its very first meet-up for 2017. They organized a photo walk bringing their SigFigs and favorite sets for their first ever LEGO® Photography.
